Root-on-Rock Style
Workshop was held at clubhouse of BCG-Malta on Thursday 27th of October 2016.
Tanio continues to explain how he does the 'Root on Rock' style.

First Tanio explains how he forces a ficus cutting to make elongated roots in a tall tin cylindrical container. Subsequently, he explains how after two years of growth, the cutting is taken out of the cylinder, bare-rooted and wrapped around a rock with stretch-and-seal tape (see link below). In contrast to the other workshop, here, Tanio accommodates the rock with the roots around it into a deep wooden pot with slates. Then he fills the box to the top with river sand. After a year of growth in the wooden box, slates are removed one by one every 2 to 3 months... removing also the river sand. In doing so roots are exposed slowly and made to elongate downwards while also getting fattier and hardier to the elements.
This is a follow up of his previous lecture, which can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
