Time from First Wiring to Shaped
Hi Folks!
I am interested in creating and then selling bonsai. I am wondering what the average time frame would be from the first wiring to the plant being shaped.
I was also wondering if any of you offer a maintenance service to clients. If so, how you charge for the service/what type of contract do you offer.
Have an awesome day!

wow - seems like quite a daunting undertaking when you dont know the answer to your first question...
not trying to be a dick and rain on all your happy, but do you have any experience at all with little trees in little pots ?

Oh, well you are being a little...no pun intended.
I had heard that people in the bonsai community are helpful and nice. Unfortunately, I am not sure about that as you are the first post I have received.
The worst reply I expected was "depends on the plant". If this is the kind of attitude I should expect from any request for information, I'll find other resources.
I am surprised that your ego has not made it a daunting undertaking to work with the little trees in little pots.

If you are an experienced grower of potted plants (nurseryman, etc.) then you could likely learn the basics of bonsai growing and training in about a year. Shaping of trees takes months to years depending on the material. There are all sorts of nuances to learn including potting mixes, root and tree pruning, fertilization, pot choices etc. Most 'bonsai' sold from the back of one's car on the side of the highway (you may have seen them) are poor specimens and likely short lived.

i just took umbrage at your only and immediate goal being turning what should be a passion and horticultural art form into commerce.
try some basic questions about bonsai in general and you may get a better response than johns polite reply to cover my rudeness
after all, would you show up at a lake with no fishing knowledge and immediately ask the pro where the honey-hole is ?

Kevin.
my friend it isn't worth it. The cost factor on Bonsai is very high, and building a name can take years.
Money going out of the wallet for years.
There is a time when Christmas is finished and the mallsai presents go bad.
I go silent.
Let me pour a little Johnny Walker blue on that bruise spot - or is that Fine White Tea 90 deg.C ?
Stay Well.

Depends on how fast you can put wire on I suppose.

Hi, I used to do the very same thing a few years ago mine were mostly grown from seed. Time taken is variable but it is possible to grow something saleable in 3 to 4 years, in fact I used to sell a lot of seedlings for people to shape their own. It is surprising how many people will buy seedlings to have a go them selves. But you do need some more advanced Bonsai on your stand/ stall/nursery for customers to see what to aspire to. Seedlings will take 1 to 2 years depending on what species you grow. Hope this helps. Mind you that was in the UK, In your neck of the woods things may be different.
