SPEKBOOM FOR 2016 WISCONSIN STATE FAIR
my portulacaria afra - aka spekboom - that i will be displaying at the wisconsin state fair this year (on display 8-4 thru 8-6)
i got this tree as a 2 inch/5cm tall cutting 4.5 years ago and have developed it myself to its current state.
as i dont really like buying "finished" trees and prefer to develop my own, (in order to learn as i grow) it may still be a year or two before i have anything other than a spekboom ready for "the contest" (except for possibly a brazillian raintree later this year)... luckily these guys develop really fast (i am only in the midst of my 5th full growing season in this endeavor and here in zone 5, those are short seasons indeed)

Now that is really nice. You have done a really good job. Just a couple comments on the arrangement. It seems like the jade is about to fall off of the nice piece of wood. Perhaps move is a bit to the left. And the companion perhaps a bit to the front. You have time to play with the arrangement. Your good at taking great pictures, so pictures of each arrangement will be a big help. That is a tip to everyone, that looking at pictures really helps.
Thanks and as always look forward to more.

Re: SPEKBOOM FOR 2016 WISCONSIN STATE FAIR
thanks doug !
yes, after posting i noticed that the pot looks like it is tipping backwards a bit on the slab (rock - not wood)
unfortunately when it comes to displaying at state fair, the artist is not in control of his set-up other than providing a picture of the display and hope for the best... we all deliver our trees to one central point and then 1 person gets them all into the fair display area and sets them up less than ideal, but the logistics of everyone showing up the morning of the show period (being thursday) is entirely impractical...
i am personally not comfortable with the whole arrangement, but "it is what it is"
i look forward much more to our annual exhibit in september, state fair being more of a PR thing...

Understood. Pics of the actual display would be nice -- and others of interest.

Great result. Now you have set a standard. We do not expect anything else from you in the years to come in the other categories.
The rearrangement of the branches was obviously a good decision.
It really looks very nice. Congratulation, Kevin

and thanks to you too vlad... especially for the extra pressure !
i reckon after 5 years i need to move to the intermediate category in 2016
and while the ribbon is nice and all, the "banzai contest" doesnt really mean much, in my opinion.
