English Elm Yamadori/Ulmus Procera
Hi folks, this is the latest addition to my balcony, its a Chuhin sized English Elm..Ive just given it a light prune and propped it up with a little piece of rock, as it was a little wobbly in the pot. I think the rock actually works, but will take a better look under the soil next spring. in winter the branch structure will be assessed properly and tidied up. the dead stub at the back will be stripped and hollowed out...

The tree was potted in spring, so just going to let it establish, light pruning here and there but nothing major. the tree is now only 10in tall and 14in wide, its perfect for my balcony as i can now only accommodate Chuhin and Shohin sized trees.
Thanks, will update as it develops

I just saw a couple broken, bent over, beat up elms along a fence line just the other day. Looks like a stop is in order to check what they look like. If they are anything like this I'll pay the farmer to dig them out for him.

I wonder how many gallons of petrol it would take to drive my bass boat across the pond and just get one from Kaizen?BobbyLane wrote:That sounds interesting, i hope you find a gem, good luck

I really like the elms. Haven't found one I didn't like. They are the one tree I grow from seed. They grow like rockets. They backbud like nothing else. They can take brutal rootwork. Their leaves reduce dramatically. Lots to like.steveb wrote:Love this tree. Great work. I'm in my 7th year of bonsai and am starting to love elms too!! Thanks for sharing.
Now go out and get you some.

Well what can I say? Another excellent tree!
I really love this kind of wild and gnarly deciduous material. Huge character. Looks like your taking it in exactly the right direction as well (more than a little jealous of this one to be honest )
Regards
Richard
