Florida Elm Update and Rejoiner
Well good job to Kevin and company for getting the IBC back up an running.
Its nice to see our global friends again.
Jay asked for an update on some of my Florida Elms so here is one as of this January in its nude state. The tree is currently in full leaf again - short dormant periods here in Florida.

Rob: Your Florida elm looks so tidy for January! Do you have a shot of it in leaf?
Also, tell us about your avatar. Is that one of your engineering projects?

Hi Alan, believe it or not the tree came right off the bench and into the garage for the shot - maybe I pulled a few stubborn leaves to make it totally nude. The trunk has some mold and needed some cleaning. Last season this tree grew very slowly and required little maintenance.
I don't have a shot in leaf from this year, (I'm in Fort Worth, Texas, right now) but can post one when I get home. There's probably an earlier shot of it in leaf on my blog.
As for the avatar - if I said what it was, it would ruin the mystery. I'm sure someone can figure it out

Well, it looks like a sprinkler, but I was hoping it was some sort of Martian probe device to help find the missing WMDs.Rob Kempinski wrote:As for the avatar - if I said what it was, it would ruin the mystery. I'm sure someone can figure it out

The avatar appears to be " Iron Byron", a strange choice of a golf hero.
Mine would be Robert Tyre Jones Jr.

Very good Mark, but I don't recall saying Iron Byron was my hero - just my avatar.
PS Bobby Jones and I are alumni of the same school. I agree he would be a good golf hero, but not approporiate for an avatar.

Hi Rob.
Congratulations. Very nice tree, just my little mind the deployment of the lower left branch. It seems to me a bit intrusive. Best regards Pavel S.

Re: Florida Elm Update and Rejoiner
Hello Rob, I have enjoyed watching this tree develop. I like it very much and appreciate the work you have put into it. As it has matured and the ramification has increased, I think a couple of reasonably minor changes could possibly make it look at little older. Like Pavel, the lower left hand branch seems a little out of place in the current image. I also tried to reduce the width of the foliage mass in order to visually increase the perception of size. I took the liberty of creating a visual.
Thanks,
John

I appreciate what you and Pavel have suggested. A simplier idea for the somewhat front facing branch would be to rotate the tree in the pot at the next repotting. I meant to do it this year but my travel schedule has been brutal and missed the repotting window.
