Island Island
An island I picked some days ago. In my opinion the side B is better, the lighty pattern looks like waves, but the other side is nice also.

Re: Island Island
A very interesting stone, the kind I would like to find myself.
At first sight (Side A), I thought of an otter or a seal resting on the beach But you're right, side B looks more interesting. On the cement tiles, it makes me think of a stealth fighter plane. With a different setting, maybe just on sand, it should give a totally different, less martial picture
And in side B viewed from the top I see a bird sleeping with its head down under the wing.
That's why I wrote "interesting: I'm not a suiseki enthusiast, but I like them, and here I can see different things according to the view.
I guess the stone must be slate or some similar rock, right? If so, maybe you're from Brittany or the UK, although I've heard that the biggest quarries for slate in Europe are in N-W Italy. I don't think you're from UK - a lot of Britons prefer to mention UK, or even England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. So I'd say Brittany: am I right?

Re: Island Island
Hi Alain, I don't know what kind of stone is. These black stones with some quartz lines are very common around here. I am a rookie in Suiseki I started to see stones one month ago and I have to learn a little bit more about stones, minerals, etc...
I want to dry the stone and to look for a temporal base in order to study the best position. I think in the 'B' position there is a small lake on it but I don't sure at this moment.
I am not british :-) . I live in Switzerland, the stone was picked in a river beach on the french Rhine

Re: Island Island
In my view, the lake is much too small, looks more like a puddle to me
Maybe the stone should gain some patina before you choose a definite front or display. As it is now, the overall surface still holds fine particles that makes it look light grey except where you drop water on it, and to me that looks very artificial. and take my comment for what it is: a friendly point of view. To me, flattering is not friendly

Re: Island Island
To one person the lake may be as a puddle. To another, with a different view/perspective, it's a good sized lake!
As I study display, one school says do not put a suiseki such as a mountain stone with a bonsai. A mountain which the stone represents, is so much bigger than a mere
tree.So much so, That the display is out of balance.
I see this stone displayed with a scroll of a pair of circling eagles. from their perspective, the mere puddle actually is a nice sized lake. Maybe you see a tiny single engine piper air plane amid heavy clouds allowing the pilot mere glimpses of the land below....
The challenge of display is to get your object to be seen by others as you do. best done in simple terms but anything but SIMPLE!
It's a good stone. Thanks for posting and never get discouraged....
