Pachira glabra

Money tree. I bought one of these and it has been re potted since August 4th. It is about 4 foot high and all the leaves are terminal with no branching.. It is a triple trunk and has not been braided. They are trained as bonsai. My question is: can i make chops further down the trunks to force lower growth and branching? Would it react like a Scheflera(sp?) or not. Thanks.

only thing i know is that i bought my mum one 5 or so years ago and it has yet to meet the same fate as the rest of her plants...
but she won't let me experiment on it by hacking away at it
