so, is it pronounced speck-BOOM or schpakbuum or spekenzieboomboom or... ?
Actually the oo is pronounced like the o in 'cone'.
Spek is pronounced like speck, yes.
Although the way you pronounce 'cone' will depend on where you're from.. Pronouncification (what a word..) is tricky!
Have fun shouting it around
Interesting question by the way, David.

LOL ..... Since I was lying in bed trying to think of an Americanglish word that sounds like boom in spekboom I've decided it is almost impossible. Cone is not a bad try, but it's not the same. Closest I can come is if you think of James Earl Jones rapping "boom boom boom, shake da room!". It's not like the "oo" is root ...... It's kinda deeper. Heck....... Forget it!

Never heard of that rapping mister, but yes, it:s nearly impossible! I wonder how you South-Africans pronounce it though!

I thought the leaves must be pretty powerful if it makes Xhosas grandmothers lactate. Perhaps my medical background leads me to humor best kept at bay....
Anyhow, the bush gained in stature with me after reading the article. I recently obtained a few and now I'll have amazing stories to share!
