Look through the traditional pictures. Then you probably should get the wire and scissors out and bend the top back down and reduce the foliage. Good healthy start.

I'd still get rid of it, then plant the tree a bit deeper in the pot. But that's what I would do. One size may not fit all.

Forgive me, if I'm wrong. But it looks more like a juniperus to me. Or the cypress has juvenile foliage that I'm not aware off.
