Absolutely! I know exactly what you mean.
We've had a few warm days now and all of a sudden everything seems to be turning green. Well almost everything, here's one that's rather more pink (not the greatest of trees but certainly a heart warming image of spring that's brightening up my benches).
Cheers

Nothing growing here yet. My trees are still frozen for the most part.

super glad to hear that you level of stoke is not diminished !!!
i have only been in it a few years and the first couple springs were too full of worry about what was gonna make it and what wasnt...
this year i have been truly, diligently and actually watching everything come awake...
and all the pregnant looking buds are sexy as hell as nature does its thing and they get ready to come forth...
pics to follow when repotting done...

Lower Peninsula. I live 90 miles from the tip of the mitt. In an area called the Ausa le valley. By Mio Michigan. It's always the coldest spot in the lower peninsula.
Part of the reason my trees are still frozen is because the blanket of straw works excellent. We are having a warmup this week. It's supposed to stay above freezing at night for at least a week. We could still get snow though afterwards.

daaaamn... but i am curious about your blanket of straw... ?
some folks mulch in their pots if leaving them outside and i considered that...
when uncovering, do you then just store the straw for next year ?
and do you find it works better than wood chips/mulch ?
less mess ?
pros - cons ?
my main concern is that i might be moving next year and might need to consider outside wintering of some of my trees...

Sorry. I've been busy collecting trees.
I finally pried the last of my trees off of the ground today. And we're supposed to get snow next week.
Kevin,I just spread the straw on the ground fairly thick. A good 6 inches. Then I set the tree on that. Then I cover up the pot up to the lowest branches of the tree. As it snows and covers the trees they get even more insulation.
For clean up I just rake the straw up and toss it in the woods. This way of storing trees for winter works. I didn't suffer a single loss this year or last. We see temps well below zero for long periods of time. Weeks. And it always makes me wonder when people lost trees being kept in a garage or shed.

hey ruis... that punica looks really nice !
mike - thanks !
as i run outta room, and looking at a possible move (after almost 20 years in the same house), i am looking into exterior wintering...
i like the sound of the straw thing... cheap and readily available.
