seasonal blues
winter is probably the most boring time of year for me. I feel like I'm going to baby some poor plant to death. it doesn't surprise me that I killed 8 plants that did so well outside. sigh...

Andrew,
why not take up a complimentary hobby for your trees, Pottery.
Get a small kiln [ you can make one ] and make some small pots.
Or go to a centre that teaches pottery.
Do you enjoy drawing ?
Draw tree designs.
If not though drawing, then camera shots and work with tracing paper/ 6b pencil off of the computer screen.
Read up on Bonsai history, through China.................
When I get itchy, I take a 6mm x 5.0 cm rod of titanium or 8k gold and pound out a ring.
Heavy hammer, a small steel slab and a drawing, pliers to hold the object.
You can flatten the metal to 10 mm wide by say 1mm thick and 7.00 cm long.
Works out my kinks well.
Sandpaper/files and you get a ring. Sell/wear/ gift, as you wish.
Use you time well.
I started Bonsai around your age, many from seed / seedling / cutting.
You can have a great time experimenting, and not feel your age [ compared to if you start at 35 to 40 years ] - chuckle.
Best to you.
