KHBS bonsai 10th show
Hi IBC!
Yesterday the 10th Anniv and open exhibition of one of the biggest local club (KHBS) started the show. They were joined by other clubs in the region. The entries are all very good and took us whole day to judged the entries.
The group is improving dramatically in recent years.
more pics later, just used my Iphone in the pics, and find it hard to upload photo in IBC using the device.
regards,
jun

Wow, thanks for sharing Jun!
I'll say, there are some world-class Bonsai in those pictures! I am always just simply amazed at the enthusiasm and dedication I see evident in the Bonsai clubs and organizations from the tropics. The proof is in the trees. And when you see the outstanding results like you've got shown in those pictures..... well, those are some very talented people!Jun wrote:The group is improving dramatically in recent years.

Yes Auballagh. This group got 80 very active members and all are doing their own trees. very good pool of talent coming from just one club.
Here are some more trees.
I feel very honored and humbled to be one of the judges and guest upon seeing this collection in the opening day. And I humbly Thank the group of KHBS for their trust and confidence.
More trees,
later.

jun

Some of the entries also came from other groups. We are the groups that separated from the national mother group and are now doing good and feeling much independent on our own, standing on our own feet and helping each other out.

What interested me is that the show is in a shopping mall. In this country, we have orchid shows in shopping malls, but not bonsai shows. There is not enough room, and we would be afraid of theft and vandalism, or just unsupervised children. We usually have bonsai shows in hotels, exhibition centers, or botanical gardens.

Great stuff! I love all the gnarly volcanic rock. The "floating rock" one would be right on home on the set of Avatar. Thanks for posting.

hi Iris.
one of our objective here is to bring bonsai to the public. and the mall is the most efficient place in doing this. the mall provides us with free security. we are getting lots of new members this way. while in hotels a very limited crowd can view the event. our mall designs are also different from the west, we got exhibition halls, concert halls, even Ice hocky and basketball courts inside the malls.

Good for you. I think one reason North American malls are rather cramped is that in the North, heating is very expensive, and in the South, the public demands air conditioning. Also construction costs are higher. Many malls have community rooms, but they are nowhere near big enough for a bonsai show. Our local club show is at a very nice public library. Up until now, the US National Bonsai Exhibition was held in a nursing home (of all places), which has a very large auditorium. Next year it will be in the exhibition hall of the city of Rochester, an excellent location.
