Yard Juniper
Hello IBC,
I would like to show a yard juniper that was collected earlier this year. This is a really large Creeping Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis 'Blue Chip'); this variety is extremely slow growing (even from juniper standards). I am actually starting to like shohin and chuhin sizes more (especially after dealing with larger material), so I might end up trading or selling this tree once it strengthens through next year.

And here is a snapshot of fresh new growth tips growing since June:

Has anyone worked on this species of juniper?

Juniperus horizontalis is one of the most common bonsai species. You can start by doing a search right in IBC. Google on J. horizontalis bonsai & you will get pictures & information till the cows come home.

Re: Yard Juniper
ya know. you don't have a bad juniper there. the curves are rather interesting. if you can keep it alive and vigorous, you may want to try grafting to it. the nice thing about grafting is you can put foliage where you want.
