Care for a small pemphis

Hi IBC,

I had a pencil-sized trunk pemphis that was given to me by a friend to care. He said that this is one of the most sought after species a bonsaist could have. I would like seek some help and advise on how to porperly care for this plant as I know it would probably takes some years for this to even consider as a bonsai material. I am a newbie in this art and I still have limited knowledge on what to do. below are some of the questions I need to know:

1. What type of soil is suited for such plant?
2. How could I develop it into a bonsai material?
3. What type of fertilizer is used on this type of plant? (some are spraying salt water?

hi , first plant it in 100% volcanic sand or coral sand 1/4 inch if its only small plant it in a large training pot and let it grow. use organic fertilizer such as guavo or even cow manure , and they like plenty of it . a tip robert steven gave me a few years ago that works good for developing small pemphis is to plant them in 50% volcanic sand and 50% cow manure and they grow like crazy. as for styling, its a bit early for that and we would need a photo . regards john

Hi John,

Thanks for the advise. As of the meantime, I only had 1/4 and 1/8 sifted river sand. Will the combination of this soil mixes good enough for the pemphis?
