Because that is it's normal shape in Nature, unless you wire it to look like something else. This Ginkgo looks very Chinese and would surely classify it as a Penjing.I always wondered why is it that we see Ginkgos upright/broom or whatever the form it is.
Very different and unusual and that is the way of Penjing. Elms with curvy trunks and so forth. More stylized. Cool.
