ABFF 2013 in the Philippines

Hi IBC.

The Philippine finest bonsai exhibited for 6 days!


The official opening Opening today of the biggest bonsai event in the country and Asia pacific.. ABFF- Asia-Pacific Bonsai Friendship Federation.

There were delegates coming from other countries and some IBC members are coming too.

Three night of display area preparation, three nights non stop of bonsai delivery from all over the country, they come by plane, by ship, by truckloads and cars.

I am happy and proud to say that more than 90% percent of the trees on display were locally created from raw materials and just a few were bought as imported trees from outside of the country.

I saw a lot of pemphis, an ignorant question: is pemphis the major species for bonsai overthere?

Thank you people for the appreciations.
I wasn't able to take photos today of individual trees, i hope some fellow IBC members can post their photos, I met Some good friends today from the forum like Qui (Protonwira of Vietnam), Budi and some some other fellas. I post the other pictures tomorrow...please stand by.

BTW, there were about 300 trees, all were in the matured stage.


@ mientrung, Yes, Phempis is our main bonsai trees.

Marvelous exhibit. I wish we over here would learn to display trees at a more suitable viewing height -- but where did you find so many identical tables???

The PBSI ( Phil. Bonsai Society Inc. ) provided the tables and stand for this event they had it manufactured and will be for keeps in future events... Wish you guys were here..we'll try to post most trees and also suiseki stones

Me too. I was last in the Philippines in 1953 when I was 14 or 15 years old. Doesn't look like I'm going to make it back there now.

Having had the opportunity to see some of these trees in person, I can attest to their quality.

The Manila bonsai community has been very busy the past few months and judging from the photos, all your hard work has paid off.

most of the trees you saw including that one you posted belongs to the chairman of PBSI Mr. Bobby Gopiao. His trees were in display (I think) as non competing entries...to be fair with other participants.

The tables were pre fabricated for this show, more than 350 pieces. Height is 1.00. Just perfect for eye level display without the bonsai stand/table. As most of the trees in display were huge and most of the time we focus on the tree and pot and not on the bonsai stand and accessories.
