Flowering Quince flowering for second this this season
Hi,
I bought a flowering quince late this winter and it was in bloom, and had some leaves. Because of this, I cannot confirm it had proper dormancy with the previous owner. I removed the flowers in March, about a week after getting the tree, and kept the tree in a cold place until it could go outside. Now, it's been outside for several weeks and is putting on a lot of growth... BUT, it has started producing more flower buds... probably 6-10 of them. So I am wondering if perhaps by keeping the tree in a cold place, after I took possession, tricked it into dormancy?
I plan on giving the tree proper dormancy next winter, and was wondering if the flowers at this point in time should be a concern... Is the tree's internal clock all "messed up"?

I would remove them to allow the plant to focus on growth instead of expending another lot of energy on flowering. It has been found that plants crossing the equator can often get messed up by the switch in seasons but your quince should fall into synch with your locale no problem.

Hi, my quince had more flowers than ever this spring. Just yesterday I found out, that there are a few new buds ready to flower. So for me it seems to be no big deal.

I've noticed that pruning will sometimes cause flowering on certain Japanese Flowering Quinces.

Here is the tree today. I'm letting it grow as it pleases, but I did give it a little trim in some areas. As mentioned, it flowered for the second time.
