I'm just back from the sea and got inspiration in sea-scape . so...I'm try to put them in my first small penjing project.
all plants that used are Premna from cutting. rock and pot are gift from my friend . the lighthouse is my own sculpted... for fun.
what are you think if I will add some colour sand (blue) at pot surface for sea water feeling?.
all opinion are welcome!.
P.S. how to repot the rock planting penjing, if the rock is fix on pot ?.
THanks again for looking

Re: my first Penjing
Very nice work.
But I must admit I don't like the overall shape of both the stone and the flat one on which it stands:
1/ they're much too massive to my mind
2/ they're very different in form, colour and texture: to me, they don't fit together
So, once again (but some of you are beginning to know me ), very good job, but one has to bear in mind that technique is not the goal, it's just a means.

The two rocks may look different, Alain, because in thatr final picture the top one is wet?????
If you look at the earlier pictures, the rocks seem a better match.
Besides, geologically speaking you often see rocks of differing composition one against another. The softer rock weathers away leaving the odd pillar/cliff of harder rock behind. Maybe not in France???? But along our rocky coasts and in our deserts it is quite common.

Thank you very much tmmason10, Jim and AlainK
from my opinion, unity can come from difference materials. if it is too much same ... too boring to say it is fun.
" child play and build a sand castle on the beach... he decoration his castle with many rock and shell, there ae difference but still have unity and look fun "

Oh, of course you can find some. For instance, not very far from the Mediterranean coast, you can see these "Fairy chimneys", not as spectacular as the ones you can see in Cappadoccia, but very impressive too. The sea level was a hundred metres higher (300 feet) and there was a beach. When the water level loweered, the sand formed a harder rock than the calcareous stone it was on, and so some of these sandstones prevented a part of the rock below to be eroded:
Or in the Alps :
Usually, these rock formation have this upright, slim shapes like those wonderful ones in the Halong Bay.
But of course, you can find different shapes anywhere I suppose, maybe it's just because I'm more used to seeing the rocks in places I've visited
