Like you & probably most people here at the forum, I enjoy & respect nature, the gifts it brings us daily!! It is good season to catch trout here in state of Maine, USA & this brings me to many isolated areas of rivers. i stay busy scanning the ground while waiting for them to bite! The ones ive gathered so far would probably be put in the biseki category.
The above stones are lovely #9 is especially unique!! The colors, smooth shape & sheen!! Can you post a photo looking down upon the rock? From the photo the cavity looks very deep indeed!

In picture 8 you show a landscape stone but I see a face. To understand, a stone can be both?

Hi Lennard... In modern stone appreciation, many forms are seen that were not popular traditionally. In suiseki practice, the only human form correct to traditional aesthetics is a full-figure representing a specific, spiritually-elevated human, folklore, religious or mythical character. In Chinese scholar rock aesthetics, zoomorphic stones have seldom referenced man. When you put man as the object of contemplation, nature recedes.

A popular form of collection on this forum is stones which replicate faces. These are consistent with modern Chinese appreciation & the broad category of modern "viewing stone appreciation," but inconsistent with focus on remote nature, which is common in traditional stone appreciation in Asia. The Japanese have made some concessions to stones having little trace of man-- boat & hut stones are considered "landscape views" though each represents a built object. "Bridge stones" in suiseki refer to built bridges rather than natural bridges, which are referenced as "path gates" (J. domon).

Surely, someone will disagree, but many will consider stones representing a face, head or torso as a "fun stone." Forum members do not limit appreciation or consider wit to be subordinate to tradition, so appreciating the "face" is fine.

I agree, looking for faces can be fun, but contemplating nature in a stone is another realm.
Naturally nothing is excluded, but allowing oneself the chance to go beyond the mindset of looking, recognizing or finding shapes one knows, opens deeper layers.
For example, a mountain stone in a display is not always about a mountain, it can learn us something that is impossible to communicate or teach, it has to appear in your mind in your own way, only then something original is learned.
This is beyond normal imagining or imaging, and surely not about determination of a stone.

It seems you have a very big collection of good stones.
Beautiful green and red in the first post stones 11 12 13.
In the second post the surfaces of the stones hold the water well.
the mountain stone no 3 gives a majestic feeling.

My first impression of the third stone is that of pyramids. Not a specific one but triangles laying over each other. Pyramids are big, almost like mountains? There is even a little entrance to the pyramid to the right.

The first stone shows a lot of faces like in a pirate's island.

Love stone 11-13 as natural mountain stones-especially stone 12 is incredible to me.

Keep them coming.
