[ Identification ] : Ilex or not Ilex?
Hi all,
I bought two shrubs [ more like sticks ] at a nursery today.
The guys there name it "Oui" and even wrote it like that on the receipt.
But I've not been able to find anything plant related to that name once I got home.
I've made some searches and the closest thing I've found is Ilex.
But I'm not 100% positive.
Could anyone kind of help me identify this plant - confirm or point in another direction?
Characteristics:
Woody
Buds back on old wood
Leaves appearence are mix:
1. Leaf oblong/round with smooth edges = Seems to be juvenile leaves
2. Leaf wavery with spiky edges, there are literally small spikes on the leaf edges = seems to be mature leaves
Thanks in adv

I am pretty sure it is Ilex also, but I didn't realize how many species, sub-species and hybrids there were for Ilex.
American Holly perhaps?

Actually, Xavier, your #1 should be "leaf arrangement is OPPOSITE". That automatically rules out Ilex, whose leaf arrangement is ALTERNATE... every single holly species and subspecies. It simply does not matter that the leaf "looks like" a holly leaf.
Glad you've settled on Malpighia.

Hi Russell,
Thanks for the tip.
I've completely forgotten to mention it out actually I did check it out, but then completely forgot about it as I was focused on the more prominent characteristics of the leaves which was unusual to me.
