Evening watering ok for cypress?
Hi all, absolute beginner here but I've gotten some great advice from some very nice volunteers at the GSBF bonsai garden here in Oakland. I picked up a pair of Boulevard Cypress (chamaecyparis pisifera) from a nursery for starter material. I'll be growing and maintaining my trees on the roof of my warehouse, but due to some odd circumstances involving the roof access point I don't have regular access to them in the mornings, only evenings (some afternoons). I've read that morning watering is most often recommended so the pot does not sit wet overnight and promote fungus/etc., but as I said, I do not have regular access to the trees in the morning. Will this be an issue in the long-term, or will evening watering be ok? Our climate is pretty dry and sunny (not much fog here in the East Bay).
I'm anticipating keeping these new trees in the nursery pots for a couple months first, but if this will be an issue in the long term I may need to look into automatic watering in the morning.

I think you will be fine. Just be careful not to OVERwater.

Hello,
I am not shure about an exposed, sunny and dry rooftop as placement for a sawara cypress in a bonsai pot.
They like some water, regular control would be nice under this conditions, definite in hot summer.
Is there a more covered spot on that rooftop?
Automatic watering would be good but needs regular control as well due to changing conditions.
Juniper would do maybe better up there?
Anyway, nice species to work with, needs regular pinching to save the green near the trunk.
