To all involved in this presentation, your work is world class! You should be proud. It's very gratifying to see bonsai as art all over the Earth. And, thanks to Internet Bonsai Club for providing a site that allows us to view this work.

Walter,
I have no doubt whatsoever that these trees have great potential.
I have no doubt whatsoever that your students have done you proud by bringing good raw materials up to their current stage in such short time. They are indeed talented and dedicated.
Congratulations.
However I do have doubt as to whether some of these trees are show ready.

Not all of these trees are going to the exhibition, especially not thees that Walter has shown at top of this page.

Seriously, is it even possible to find an ugly Carpinus orientalis. It seems like every one is an ancient beast.

I have got to go take the saw to some big hack berries that are in the ground...

Mr. Pall,

Your students' trees are wonderful!

Why is the growth of Carpinus Orientalis so stunted? Is it the result of grazing or the elements? Are they found at high elevations (if I'm not asking for secret information)? The quality of these trees, including yours and Pavel's are incredible.

Thank you and best regards,

Augustine,

the oriental hornbeam grows in a fiigrane way naturally, in addition the conditions in the natural habitat are very harsh, semi-desert like. And then there are the sheep and goats which graze on them for decades. There are millions of hornbeams, they are not a rare species at all. But it is VERY difficult to find a real good one.
