My 1st year bonsai anniversary!!! :)
Actually a week late but I started bonsai on 10/09/2011 (arbitrary)...when I won 3 trident maple seedlings and a fukien tea bonsai through eBay.
Thanks to all of you who shared and helped me make it this far. It has been a wonderful year and all-in-all a great start for a wonderful hobby/art. Thanks for the patience & understanding too...since I know I am stubborn and could be testy at times.
Looking forward the coming years!!!
P.S. To celebrate, I am ordering some pots!!!

Thanks Marcus. You are one of many I consider my teachers here who influenced me in more ways than one. Pavel is another though we don't even really communicate. Jim, though we bang heads very often . Joey who is super patient and my only "live" mentor, Sebastijan through his videos, Russell for his vast knowledge but more especially for being (basically) local to my area, Walter, Marija, Tony, Hans, etc for their blogs, etc.
Re: magazines, I just need 11 issues (Bonsai Today #1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 13, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26) to complete the set. I would love to buy them from you if you would part with them and I promise to put them to good use.
Re: expense, I can see it now. I am actually in communication with Vic (Erin pottery) for a possible order of 5 large pots. His price is much more affordable than I can get here locally plus I like his "rustic style" w/ modern twist with the glaze.

Mazel-tov.
Nice way to celebrate, I must say.
I only stumbled on this site recently, but already appreciate your willingness to 'dive-in' --- and your accompanying knack for keeping the conversation strings lively.
Here's to many more.

Happy anniversary to our favourite s**t stirrer - which I mean in the nicest possible way and as a compliment. It's never a bad thing to upset the apple cart of complacency every so often IMHO.
Here's to another few years.

Bob & Fiona, Thanks! You both basically said the same thing and I admit it but I do have the best intentions at heart...just comes out wrong or perceived differently sometimes.

Keep on going, Dario!
Your thread is explicit about your love and passion.
PS: By the way, I'm sure you have noticed that we both share the same verse to our signatures... but do you know that this phrase of Socrates has not been said directly on its own by him? British Professor David Neil Sedley at the University of Cambridge (and others as well) has written «”I Know that I Know nothing” is not attributed to Socrates by Plato, Xenophon or Aristotle» («Lucretius and the Transformation of Greek Wisdom», page 86)

And in just this one year Dario has managed to amass nearly 450 million trees!
Setting the bonsai land speed record for most amount of material obtained in the shortest amount of time
Thank God he's in Texas, where there's plenty of room for the 800 million trees Dario is expected to collect by this time next year!

Funny thing to have an anniversary of getting into Bonsai... most of us couldn't pinpoint a time like that. In one year Dario has had more experience with collecting/styling and testing techniques than most folks would do in 10. It really says something when a beginner skips over the seeds and cutting stage and dives right into the big stuff head first. Fearlessness is a rare thing for a Bonsai beginner and it's great to see first hand. Happy first year Dario.. can't wait to see how the story evolves in the next 10!

Yep!
Thanks god he is in TX. I'll have chance to visit & smell my local forests for some more years
Dario, do you know what is the beneficial side of the story for us?: You will probably have no chance for a vacation or traveling abroad from now on... because the first pot will dry out while you are watering the last pot, ahahahaha
So, dont worry folks! He will surely stay in TX for long years

Re: My 1st year bonsai anniversary!!! :)
Jay, I am sorry for forgetting to include you on my teachers list...there are just too many to mention. I remember all your tips and help on and off line. I thank you for that. LOL...yes can't wait for spring to get the coming year's harvest. but honestly, I have no more space so I will be more picky this coming year.
Chris, I will let the admin and moderator solve that problem
Joey, Of all the bonsai folks I've met, I am most thankful for you. You must be a monk in your past life. You seem to create serenity around you...even when things are in chaos. You can slow even me down in the very best way and help me see things better. As I mentioned before...I hope you stay as you are my friend.
Vlad, Not even in my dreams...but if we can get a step closer the shadows of our admired & idolized masters...why not?
Sakaki, There is such a thing as auto sprinklers you know. LOL. No, I have reached my limit and my space is really small...so if you are having a barbeque or something, maybe I can come over! (honestly, I can't even afford the air fare so your trees are safe)
Thanks guys!
