Wirral Bonsai Society Annual Members Show Result 2012
Hi Everyone
So sorry for the delay and many many thanks for all your phone calls and e-mail especially to my mentor they all were appreciated
Here goes with what happened. This was the week-end that we were all looking forward too since last year as it was our Annual Members Bonsai and Accent Plants Show at Gordales the Award Winning Garden Center here in the Wirral and by ALL accounts and the feedback we have had it has been Fabulous, Fantastic ,as some Scots may say it was Fan-dabi-dozi or even could comment it was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! anyway what ever way to describe our Show it was the best so far in our 10 year association with the CCG
It all started with the preparations on the Thursday and Friday 30th and 31st of August then at last the first of September was here and everything that the members worked hard to achieve was accomplished and it look Brilliant in my opinion Soon the public started to arrived and it was great to see a Special Gentleman Mr Kevin Bailey and Moderator for the Internet Bonsai Chat Forum the IBC, Marcus From The V-oC-B-S and a few other distinguished guest all went well with lots of ohhh's and aaaaa's look at that look at this and finally Mr Steve Tolley Head Judge for the Event and a MASTER Of the Bonsai Four Dimensional Art Supremo
As time went past with plenty of toing and frong with his trusted notebook making notes and trying to decide it was tension for some members and in the end we all had our minds settled when Mr Tolley took center stage with his results and made what we could say was the best ever show that W-B-S has delivered in the 10 years that the society has been holding its Members only Annual Show at this Outstanding Venue Gordales the Award Winning Garden Center here in the Wirral
During his selection MrTolley spoke about the members ,the society as a whole and praised us all for outstanding achievement and pre-selected 15 various Bonsai Trees for next years THE BEST OF BRITAIN in May 2013
The Honours were giving out and went as follows
Best Shohin == Pontentilla Owner Tony F
Best Chuhin == Owner Ian W
Best Broad-Leaf == Sean D
1973: Tree was bought as garden center stock with an approximate age of 4-6 years old, and planted in a neighbours rockery alongside a pond being landscaped.
1985: Neighbour decided to do away with the rockery and pond; whereupon the tree was dug up and put in a skip. The tree was rescued from the skip where it was found to be riddled with canker. After cutting off all the diseased branches, in was planted in a polystyrene fish box to recover and given plenty of TLC.
(note) at this time not being fully away of the fungees causing the canker and having little knowledge of fungicides; I did suffer from 'Athlete's Foot' so my logic was that is my condition was a fungus then I could the 'Athletes Foot Cream' to protect the tree around the areas of the cut branches, which as you can see worked (Alan 1)
1987: Styling started
2000: At the NBS workshop given by Peter Adams it was a critique by Peter and he did the water colour painting as to how he visualized it would appear in a few years time (It was still the fish box) At the same workshop I purchased a pot from one of the NBS members.
2001: It went into the pot it is in now.
2001 To -Date
The tree has been re-potted every three years; having always used 50/50 mix of John Innies No.2 and grit, it has been mainly fed with 0-10-10, but it did have a couple of season of Bio Gold was used . (Alan I)
2011: Custodianship was handed down to (Sean D) after 5/6 years of helping with its continued development.
The Tree is known as Skippy and was Rescued from a SKIP = DUMPSTER = GARDEN REFUSE,=WASTE CONTAINER what ever you like to call them,
