Re: siberian elm collected 2000
Interesting! So old siberian elm bark is plated. I've been growing some from cuttings for 14 yrs and the bark is just beginning to crack in places. Did u make the main cut in 2000? I'm surprised it hasn't healed over yet as fast as they grow, but I may not be appreciating the scale of this tree. What are your plans for this?

hi velodog
this tree is old it was a hedge and was cut back at least fifteen years ago dug out by me thirteen years ago all of the trunks were small shoots the bases are just getting rough bark now these trees dont grow very fast in pots (the trees in the ground grow about six feet a year or better)
this tree is big the pot it is in is 24x24 inches i will post some new pics next week
i am looking for a pot without much luck (very big and hard to find)
thanks andy

I dunno I can get shoots to grow over 2 ft in one season in a pot, with proper encouragement from fertilizer, which is fairly fast I guess. Are your plans to maintain this as a clump or select one leader and go for a sumo style once it heals?

shoots over two feet are easy enough but the branches dont thicken very much compared to in the ground growth
when i find better pics i will post this tree is a large forest it has atall elegant feel when pruned
i will post a sumo elm in progress soon from a stump i collected last spring
