Gift or no gift?
Hi Guy's. Thank you for allowing me to join such an illustrious band of obviously knowledgeable and gifted Bonsai specialists.
A week ago I was given a small Bonsai, which I determined to be a Yew. Taxus Baccata. Or maybe it isn't, time will tell. To be quick about it, it is in a mess. But I have been bitten by the Bonsai bug and at almost eighty years of age want to help it grow into something beautiful. I have done nothing as yet, apart from watering sparingly. Tomorrow I am visiting a Garden Center where I intend to buy some Akadama, with which I intend to try and re-pot this little waif, because it is obviously root bound. I am hoping that some of you will condescend look at the photo's I will try to put on here. It may be that after the initial shock, you might have a suggestion or two that will help me to help the poor Bonsai.
Well I have studied the tutorial on uploading photo's but it looks like the first photo has not loaded, so I shall leave you for now and try to get back with the full series of photo's. Thank you for bearing with me so far. Regards Walt.

Re: Gift or no gift?
Maybe you could print out that page on photos and have it next to you are you make another attempt. You are near 80. I wrote that (most of it) when I was 73, so it can't be impossible.
When you go to that nursery, try to get the plant identified. It will help us help you if we know what it is for certain.

Gift or no gift
Hi Jim. Thanks for being so kind. I have identified my little tree as a Yew. That at least puts paid to some speculation. Now all I want is to get to grips with her problems and have her growing in a happy and healthy manner.
I have loaded in a photo which shows her sitting in my living room. I hope that it is clear enough for members to see and appreciate. I have others which I will load in when I know for sure that this one arrives here safely.
Many thanks. Jiaw-yien
