Something that is turning out just right !!!
Morning to All,
I have been testing this shrub, [ may be - Eugenia monticola [ siv?]
http://www.saintlucianplants.com/floweringplants/myrtaceae/eugemont/eugemont.html
It is about 14 inches [ 35 cm ] tall, by about 16 inches [ 41 cm ] long. Age unknown, maybe 7 years or so, and it was given with the original shape, which I in a bemused state called - Ladder style.
The results are very encouraging and I have seen lanscape specimens with 3 inch [ 8cm ] trunks, so I know I can use more of the Traditional trunk ratios of 1 to 6 and 1 to 5 , 1 being the trunk and 6 or 5 being the height. [ 1 inch of trunk to 6 inches of height - 2.5 cm to 15 cm ]
I would probably choose the more slender ratio of 1 to 6 as the tree is a guava type and feels feminine.
I never expected the tree to fill out volumetrically and actually have me removing inner branchlets to give back and airy feeling.
Sadly, the camera has but one eye, and the images are somewhat flattened, therefore to aid the imagination, I have added on a side and back photo.
Now I will test with defoliation [ on another specimen ] to see if that helps further increase branching and anything else with regards to smaller leaf size.
As you may have gathered, my drive with some trees is the research, as Bonsai on our side is like an adventure with the rare shrub or tree that does not have the typical Amazonian leaf size of 3 feet [ 1m ].
The mother of all these "victims" comes from an elderly lady's yard, and all started off as 3 seeds, and then many, many cuttings, I am told.
Enjoy the fruits of my research.
Standard soil mix for me, crushed sifted [all] brick and builders quartz sand, with compost/cocopeat.
Placement is full sun. So far, no pest problems.
Stay Well.
