Penang Floral 2012 - Bonsai Competition
Would like to share some of the photo taken on the Penang Floral 2012. The event, jointly organized by the State Tourism office,
Penang Art Society (Bonsai and Suiseki Division), Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS). FOMOS vice-president Tony Tan said that the orchid competition would be split into 60 different classes. Eric Leong, of the Penang Art Society, pointed out that the Bonsai and Adenium competitions would be split into four and two categories respectively.

Re: Penang Floral 2012 - Bonsai Competition
nice pictures - its great to see the material people are using in different countries.
nobody seems to worry about keeping the soil in the pot though - several winning trees had soil over the pot rim & table cloth. Do the judges only look at the actual tree from above the soil line in your exhibitions?...
lookingus forward to the 'deciduous' pictures - the ramification on some of those trees is often amazing
thanks Marc

I think the pictures were taken just after the watering and being cleaned yet.
Thanks for sharing anyway....

Was this discussion before of after the judging process ? They were not suppose to discuss anything among them nor with anyone before the judging started...

Thanks Robert - it did seem really messy for an exhibition, even trees displayed on mats with their award have white soil ! spilled all over the place though........
Unless the trees are judged beforehand just sat together on a table of course, then displayed later more neatly for the public exhibition?. This would save all the effort and expense needed to make up a complete display I guess - more like a relaxed club level show over here. Is this how they judge the competitions there ie just the tree ?
cheers Marcus.
(i imagine the judge picture is a set up for the camera - they have no note pads to note worthy trees etc)

Re: Penang Floral 2012 - Bonsai Competition
The discussion was done after the judging because from the overall results the plant got gold medal so the judges when to the plant again to have another look.
The soil was founds around the display area because the picture was taken after watering. They break to 3 section of judging. 1st & 2nd judging section was done on morning so before the watering the display is clean and organize. The judging is done on Friday and open to public viewing on Sun. The organizer have done some cleaning after the judging before open to public.
