Anyone working on any pin or black oaks?
I have a few nice oaks I have collected over the last two years and am starting to work the growth, just wondering if anyone else has an work to motivate me as while I find tons of reading that says how wonderful oaks can be in bonsai, I seem to only find pictures and works of one or two species. Just wondering.

The oaks around here, like red, white, swamp, pin, recover slowly from root work and don't like living in a pot for me--I gave up on-um.

Thats what I was afraid of, I have read that they can be challenging but I have also read and seen a few really amazing specimens just not a lot of info out there, my first pin oak I worked with did not deal well just wanted to see if anyone had any tips or tricks

I have a couple volunteer pin oaks that I have been trying to let develop in pond baskets in the ground. Unfortunately, the recent rabbit population explosion in our area has had other plans such as multiple defoliations this spring. I did buy a large can of rabbit repellant which has seemed to be doing it's job, and they are budding back again. My only advise is to take it real slow with the roots. On the plus side, with good soil, they won't need much root work once the base structure is there.
