Thanks you all for your nice comments, we (the whole SBK team) are very glad you like the trees and impressions from the exhibition
Andrija, thanks for the additional photos.
Hans im very happy you like my tree. This tree is one of my first trees on which I started to work with my teacher Tomaž Kovšca so it has additional value for me.
Yvonne, unfortunately I have only two photos from finished trees from demos. Both are from Kevin Willson and his assistant Richard Chambers. They did a truly professional and amazing job in both demonstrations.
I hope there will be more pictures available soon that I can post. If anyone has pictures from the event please post
Last but not least, this are the results from NTC competition.
1. Place - New talent contest - Laurent Darrieux from Monaco
2. Place - New talent contest - Elke Wewerka from Austria
3. Place - New talent contest - Christophe Roggeman from Belgium
Cheers, roland

That´s my favourite too.
The first time i look at it i thought it was a Pistacia Lenticus but it also can be an Azalea...
All the other trees are fantastic, but i really don´t like the 1st prize Juniper too much deadwood and too refined for my taste.
Greetings

Mario,
Like you said, the other trees are fantastic, but the only problem I visualize is the balance between the water line and the dead wood features. In most cases, the live vein does not twist around the live portion. This fact gives me the impression of looking at two distinct and separate elements, not one. If the live veins managed to twist and spiral around the shari, in my humble opinion, the character and overall compositions will be even better.
Anyhow, it is great to see these trees and I thank Roland for posting them.
Warm regards,
Jose Luis

A nice selection and some different styles which is nice to see.
The 1st place tree could be made much better - at least 50% of the bulky flat deadwood could be deeply carved away - in some places all the way through to make it more interesting. There is a chance to have a masterpiece of curves, hollows and movement - then i think the lack of live vein would not be so noticable, the tree may even take a little rotation to show more of the vein off. Of course it would be a great piece of material to work with, but some of the other trees have more good points i feel.
Anyone got picks of the new talent trees ? did the winner do anything different to the others?
cheers marcus

Thanks Marcus! I thought I am the only one who is not too impressed with the dead wood. It looked rather flat and very artificial to me. Great trees all around though.
Thanks for sharing!

This nice Taxus was styled by Kevin Willson his assistant Richard Chambers. It was a stunning transformation. Its a bout 35 to 40 cm high, but very compact, probably this is the reason why it looks like a shohin. Unfortunately i don't have the before photo.

A request for future show pictures. Please, if at all possible, label the species of trees.

Agree Dario I'd hazard a guess it is a very expensive material tree that has been carved in a bit of a rush, and then only doing the obvious surface work rather than looking into the material to get the hidden masterpiece out.
just using a quick bit of photoshop helped me to visualise the tree i see in this material - (and to be able to see the foliage through the hole in the trunk gives far more depth). there must be another nice basically untouched trunk like this somewhere to bring home !!
bit of fun i guess

Very very nice exhibition! Thanks for posting, more Please.
Marcus I think you vert Is spot on and a very good solution to the heavy deadwood. Note to myself I must learn to use photoshop!
Tony your demo was eye opening, a exhibition of simplification of supervulous information to create order. Thanks I learned a lot from the photos you posted.
Kevin Wilson is truly a master or the huge stump!
Thanks all
Mitch
