wiring....
on a roll lately asking dozy questions:
is it best to wire during dormant seasons ? Seems to me that would be the best way of avoiding scarring. Lost a branch from a larch due to wiring recently.

Wiring can be done almost all year long, as long as you know what you are doing. Like in most cases, there are better times to do things, but when wiring a tree, several variables must come into play. Also be aware of what you are wiring.

Regardless of when you do it, the branch will need to add sufficient growth while held in the new orientation to allow it to remain in place when the wire comes off. That's of course when you will get into trouble. If you have a number of trees, it is easy to lose track of these things. Perhaps sticking a plant marker or some easily seen reminder on the pot/trees in question will remind you to examine them at regular intervals before the wire has cut into the bark.
