....for Will Baddeley

Post  peter keane on Thu Apr 28, 2011 8:57 pm

Last year around this time, you asked about when I would give my Blaauw's to san jose graft an initial styling. This, with a repotting, was completed yesterday. I removed very little root. This temporary pot is made of fiberglass and found at a local agricultural supply store.

It's a bit messy in some spots. I'll selectively prune over the season. Cheers!

Maybe a silly question but is there a reason to use Blawwe instead of shimpacu

yeah..several. the blaauw's ramifies better than shimpaku, making a tighter "pad" sooner. As the branches are a bit stiffer, they tend to set quicker than with shimpaku. The blaauw foliage is more resistant to phompsis tip blight (we do have wet springs). Lastly, I like the color better (all a matter of personal preference, really) Very Happy

Have been discussing this tree on fb and both sides are excellent. Great choice of material.
