Peking Cotoneaster-Acutifolius Empty Peking Cotoneaster-Acutifolius

I would like something very hardy for zone5 and saw this at a nursery. Peking Cotoneaster-Acutifolius is zone 3. Really rich deep fall colours but leaves are big.
Can they be reduced?
Is it any good for bonsai at all?
