I have this shohin Shimpaku I'm working on, and I think it would look good in a crescent shaped pot.

However, I've never used that type of pot before, and I'm not sure how to deal with the
small amount of soil that the pot will hold.

Other than securing the tree into the pot with wire, do I need to build up the sides of the root ball
with muck in order to keep the soil from spilling out of a shallow crescent pot?

TIA

You could do that or use a slightly larger crescent pot that almost mirrors the volume of the current pot. As these things are always hand built by potters, you could probably commission one with a specific size and shape, quite easily.

Excellent! I guess I'm just concerned about the shallowness of these pots, and their ability to hold in the soil.

Guess I just need to give it a shot.
