Alain's virtual is a very good direction to consider. I would also like to recommend that next spring you put this plant into a much smaller pot. I think half the current volume, specifically shallower, would still be a suitable training pot. The cotoneaster I've worked with respond very well to constricted roots and take drier conditions better than most broadleaf plants.
