Indonesian Bonsai
Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world with over 17.000 islands spread along the equator between Pacific and Indian Ocean.
Bonsai in Indonesia is promoted by PPBI or The Indonesian Bonsai Society that was founden in August 31, 1979. To inaugurate the 35th anniversary, PPBI will have a Grand Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition in Kota Baru Parahyangan, Bandung, some two hours of drive from Jakarta on 11 - 19 October 2014. To see the real Indonesian bonsai please come and see the exhibition.
Here are some Indonesian trees to observe:

Hi Budi,
Firstly Happy New Year to you and your family.
These trees are magnificent, thank you very much for sharing.
Are you able to give any information on any of the trees? I'm curious about their dimensions, how long they've been in training.
If you don't have that info its not a problem, but it supplies context for their state of development.
Regards,
Nigel

Happy New Year 2014 - Indonesian Bonsai Year too all !
Thanks for the information Budi, 2014 is truly Indonesian Bonsai Year.
We are expecting more exhibitions to be held in 2014 in Indonesia, especially around October in concert with the "International Bonsai Art & Culture Biennale 2014" , so our international guests can take the advantage of their visit to see all the best Indonesian bonsai before or after the Yogyakarta event on 18 - 21 October 2014.
We are expecting more than 300 guests from around the world beside the 20 VVIP we invited.
We have prepared for our IBA&CB 2014 guests to visit your Bandung exhibition with the package tour on 17th, just a day before leaving for Yogyakarta, and to enjoy the beauty of Tangkuban Perahu volcano in Bandung : http://www.internationalbonsaibiennale.com/tour-travel/bandung-parahyangan-bonsai-tour/
Let's make 2014, a successful magical year of Indonesian bonsai !
Congratulation to PPBI and...Bravo Indonesia!

Re: Indonesian Bonsai
Wow! This is going to be a double treat.
People can go in the first week at Budi's big anniversary event then proceed to the Colossal event of International Bonsai Art and Culture Biennale 2014 where they can meet people like Amy Liang, Mauro Stemberger, Hatsuji Kato, Mrs Naemi Iwasaki, Wu Cheng Fa, and many more.
I'll be there at Robert's event, and would love to attend PBBI event as well. One plane ticket for two big bonsai event...can't wait.
Thanks Budi for the added Indonesian bonsai treat of 2014!

jun

Indeed a good news Jun.
This is a common practice such as China, when they hold an international event, the other communities around the area also do different exhibition to support the main event and coordinating tour for that. So we do the same.
Qui,
Dinh is organizing a big delegation from Vietnam, and Malaysia is ambitious to be the largest delegation, over 50 already booked and they are targeting 100. We will present award for the largest delegation group....

Thanks Adhy. Great, we will post and promote this on our website as well...: http://www.internationalbonsaibiennale.com/tour-travel/bandung-parahyangan-bonsai-tour/
Opps... the dates are changed from initially 11th - 19th ? What a pity then our international guests can't take the advantage to visit 2 big events for one ticket..

Re: Indonesian Bonsai
changing the date, Why oh why?,,, I am arranging my schedule already to visit the Pbbi event as well. It would have been a good opportunity for foreign visitors to see two events. I hope PBBI will reschedule it back again.

Re: Indonesian Bonsai
Robert,
Just out of curiosity, Budi said in PBBI show people will see the real Indonesian Bonsai, maybe what he meant is "traditionally designed" bonsai.
...In the "International Bonsai Art and Culture Biennale 2014" are we expecting new concepts only? or with "traditional displays" as well? It would be fun I think for the "traditionalists" visitors of the event. Still two shows (maybe more) at one event.

Jun, we are not trying to re-invent a wheel, nor trying to creat a "new" bonsai art form.
Ofcourse you will see all different style of bonsai, especially Indonesian bonsai in IBA&CB 2014. The only difference is ONLY the selected bonsai will be allowed to participate in IBACB 2014 because we want to show only best bonsai from Indonesia.
The participants should send their bonsai photos for the selection process. Our "Curator" Team consists of 5 high reputation masters, Mauro Stemberger from Italy, Prof. Amy Liang from Taiwan..and the other 3 are all from PPBI (Indonesian Bonsai Society); and ofcourse the criteria will be based on what we all are practicing. Nothing strange or funny.
Concerning our "new concept", we are just trying to accomodate those creative artists who have fresh and innovative idea in collaborating bonsai with other art forms, to lift bonsai art to a higher level and to show bonsai art from different perspective. Our "new concept" bonsai display will not more than 30%.
And for the 70%....every bonsai will be displayed one-by-one in separate "tokonoma", with background and accessories such as accent-plant, scroll etc...NOTHING will be les than what you see at the high-class bonsai show !
Just to give you an illustration, the same bonsai, you might see them in either way like this....
The undestanding of good bonsai principle never change....
We simply want our international guests to witness the best bonsai of Indonesia in different perspective ! ...and we will only do it in every 2 years.....
LOL, Hope Budi will not change their schedule, for good shake....
*** BTW, our offical website was just being hacked and lost some information. Please let me know if you have problem to visit our website : http://www.internationalbonsaibiennale.com/

Re: Indonesian Bonsai
It is really bad of those who hacked your website. Why are they doing such evil things ? What for ? Certainly not to promote bonsai. I urge those responsible to please stop this for the sake of global bonsai.
