Root on Rock Composition

Post  Tom Simonyi on Mon Aug 05, 2013 2:47 pm

I have posted this composition before over the years in different settings but this represents more of what vision I have had in mind for the tree and stone.    Tom

My sincere thanks to you all for your input....I am a chemist and fashioned the "ocean" from a combination of heavy metal oxide and hydroxide powders of copper, chromium, zinc, nickel, and titanium. I made suspensions of each in ethyl alcohol individually and also as mixtures to produce the colors I wanted. I poured the well-mixed suspensions as well as doing some brushwork. I needed to repeat this process many times until I got the color combination I was satisfied with. I used a concentrated alcohol to hasten evaporation. After thorough drying I applied several coats of Krylon gloss acrylic spray. I was guided through the process by accomplished painter and bonsai artist, Carl Rosner. I am indebted to him for his generous support.
