Ulmus Procera Empty Ulmus Procera

Post  Numa Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:01 pm

Hello
I acquired this elm "procera" at the end of last summer and it is still quiet in its container until now (a frost-free). It is time for me to start training and try to get the best.
Here are some pictures of his different sides and I hope you can help me choose which is most appropriate for the front as well as the branches to keep and those to remove.
thank you

my feeling is that you actually have 2 trees there, a chokkan below and a moyogi in the upper part, i would airlayer just below the first bend half way of the trunk, then you will have 2 trees with coherent and better scaled trunk lines

Hello
It is indeed an excellent solution and consider that I had not thought of.
But for now I would keep the entire tree and see what is what you can get with him in one piece Very Happy .
Other opinions and advice are welcome.
Big thank you to all.

NUMA,,You have made a lot of inprovement...i really like this tree ! my opion only,, there is a branch at the botton sticking outto the front,,i would remove it.. also where there are 2 branches really close togather take 1 off,,leave the best one..your tree may look sparch but feeding all of them takes away from the ones you want to keep in the long run.. i would then let it grow to thicken the branches you keep... i hope this may help you have a nice tree with a good trunk... take care john

Hi Numa

I would take out the two branches pained with black...and there after try to take out the topbranches that has/will become too thick.
Ulmus Procera P5170210
I like the classic shape of the tree as it is, with the many branches...but take care...the top will soon become too strong, and leave the lower branches weak behind.

Kind regards Yvonne

Hello Jose
Hello Yvonne
Thank you for your approach and vision of the tree and it comforts me to keep it around because I prefer as well.
Yvonne thank you for showing me what to remove the base of the trunk and the board for the top of the tree but should I remove entire branches too big or just shorten above a bud (half of the branches).
Is it possible to show this?
Thank you for all

Hi Numa

It looks to me like theese cuts is possible, after a branch that has leafes...later can you, if it shoots from the trunk remove the intire branch...but not now
Ulmus Procera P5170211
The backbranch to the low right looks very straigt and thick, try to cut it a little back.

Make sure the tree stands dense as it is now, all the time...dont make a gap, if a new branch is not already there to take ower....keep all parts of the tree equal strong. Good luck...how tall is it?

Kind regards Yvonne

Hello Yvonne,
A big thank you because this is exactly the information I was hoping.
Well advanced and I can keep my entire tree.
FYI, the size of this tree is 76 cm in height, 58 cm in width and the tree has a diameter of 7 cm (the circumference is 17 cm) at the base.
