English Elm Yamadori/Ulmus Procera

Post  BobbyLane on Fri Jun 10, 2016 8:31 pm

Hi folks, this is the latest addition to my balcony, its a Chuhin sized English Elm..Ive just given it a light prune and propped it up with a little piece of rock, as it was a little wobbly in the pot. I think the rock actually works, but will take a better look under the soil next spring. in winter the branch structure will be assessed properly and tidied up. the dead stub at the back will be stripped and hollowed out...

The tree was potted in spring, so just going to let it establish, light pruning here and there but nothing major. the tree is now only 10in tall and 14in wide, its perfect for my balcony as i can now only accommodate Chuhin and Shohin sized trees.

Thanks, will update as it develops bounce

I just saw a couple broken, bent over, beat up elms along a fence line just the other day. Looks like a stop is in order to check what they look like. If they are anything like this I'll pay the farmer to dig them out for him.

I wonder how many gallons of petrol it would take to drive my bass boat across the pond and just get one from Kaizen?

I really like the elms. Haven't found one I didn't like. They are the one tree I grow from seed. They grow like rockets. They backbud like nothing else. They can take brutal rootwork. Their leaves reduce dramatically. Lots to like.
Now go out and get you some.
