Nice job Heinz! Looks great, but there's two things that bug me about it. Well actually three. First, I think that the foliage is too low. Looks great when its bare, but in leaf I would like to see more length in those trunks. Second, I think you should consider trying to get more definition in the foliage pads. It may just be the photo, but these pads look too me a bit to uniform. Third thing that bugs me is that it's not in my en.
Great work mate!

You are right ...
The forest is not ready.

Re: My big Zelkova Nire Forest
Heinz,
It's a great piece of work, and the pot compliments it well. To my eye, the pot suggests a more rugged mountainous style of forest, while the trees are telling me open plain. Nonetheless, it's lovely.
A quick point I'd like some clarification on, a curiosity really. Why do you refer to the trees as "Zelcova Nire"? is the stock of Japanese origin? "NireKeyaki"(Nire Zelcova) is the Japanese name for Chinese Elm(not really a Zelkova at all, the Japanese often refer to Celtis as Keyaki(Zelcova) as well). That being said, the Japanese sports of Chinese elm commonly seen in Bonsai in Japan resemble the cork bark Chinese elms more than the standards, they're definitely worth differentiating.

Hello Ryan
Thanks for your comment
With us it as Zelkova or elm Ulmus japonica Black Nire be. Called
Chinese elms have a smooth trunk.
Just as the Zelkova serrata, which has larger leaves.
But in the family of the elms, the experts do not agree on designation.

Your magnificent creation needs a correct label. The correct name is Ulmus davidiana var. japonica. Nothing at all to do with Zelkova. Also, nire is the Japanese word for elm. It is not a variety or an English word.

This is an old thread. I don't think Heinz is with us still, to update.
But it is a nice forest. Maybe someone knows him?
