Follow-up to Very Damaged Branch, (etc., etc.)

This is in follow-up to my previous message regarding the branch of my 34 year-old dwarf pomegranate (18 inch tall) tree that I damaged severely due to my overbending the branch after wiring. I have attached three photos - one of the plant today, with a red arrow pointing out some recent growth which makes me think that the branch (that I reinforced with glue) will survive. Another photo is of the same plant with a fruit, taken in October of 1985, when the tree was a lot smaller. A third photo relates to my question. When I recently replanted the tree in a new pot, I planted it higher to expose some nebari. One of those roots is higher than the others (shown by arrow in photo ). Should I leave that root or remove it? Also, a suggestion - if anyone has photos of their trees taken over the years, I think it would be interesting to see. Do you agree? Again what do you think I should do about that root? Thanks. Barry

I would not hesitate a second and cut it off right now.

The damaged branch is the least of your problems. There isn't much you can do about the reverse taper, except encourage the plant to grow & thicken up. It's a little late this year, but the plant clearly shows it should be outdoors in the summer. You can easily spray with Orthenex or Bayer's for white fly or other insects. Clean it up a bit by pruning off all the dead & misplaced twigs, wire & style it a bit.
