Hey to all!
im completely new to this Bonsai and growing anything alive lol.
Ive allways wanted my own tree to play about with but never really got around to it,untill now. Ive proberly gone and done the wrong thing but i seen some seeds for some sort of bonsai for beginners so i just jumped straight in and bought them wasnt alot of money thank god
so the two kinds i bought where the, Sugar Maple and ZELKOVA SERRATA. both those being in seed form, I have read alot about it but thought i would benefit more from real advice from you guys.
Looking to grow indoors but outdoor is possible! any advice on these tree's and any methods from the packet the seeds come in would be fantastic . Do's and dont's etc
cheers

hi Scotty,
to be fair it will be a long wait with the seed kit - the maple seed may not germinate for over 12 months so it could be 3 or 4 years before you have a small tree to create anything from. They are both outdoor species too and will decline indoors, probably dying eventually.
if you can i would go for a trip to willowbog bonsai nursery along the A69, only about 30-40 minutes from you, and spend about £10 on a first starter tree - chinese elm, and soak up some of the excelent advice you will get. one saturday a month there is a free meeting up and tree advice type of day and this would be perfect for you living so close.
good luck with the seeds but you will get bored waiting to do any 'bonsai' techniques on them so pick a small starter tree to get you going.
cheers Marcus

Absolutely agree with Marcus.
Starting bonsai hobby from seed is absolutely not a good idea at all.

I agree. I get annoyed when hunting for seed, you always come across Bonsai seed. What is that? - bonsai seed -, so when you plant it, the tree atomatically grows into...emmmm say , formal upright style? In my opinion there isnt such a thing as bonsai seed.
Well I guess if you pick seed from a bonsai... then you can call it bonsai... SEED! I just contradicted myself, and will shut up now.
Listen to Marcus ,Start with a fast growing small tree, as mentioned, Ulmus, Syzygium, Maple, Celtis, ...ect.
But to own a bonsai, when you older, that you had grown form seed yourself, is very very satisfying indeed!
