design challenge 1
Hi IBC...
Now it's my turn. Let's play another game again...and exercise our creativity.
This is my problem tree, a ficus microcarpa (Chinese banyan), it is not as difficult to solve as the materials offered by Robert and Rob. So I hope more people can participate. The branches are all there, so it's gonna be easy , just needs a basic styling perhaps...or something weird but still looking like a tree.
I already have a picture of my solution, and will send it to one of the Mods...so I won't copy the solutions send by those who will participate.
regards,
jun

Can we see a photo with the tree outside the pot to see the base?

Re: design challenge 1
Ok, I'll give it a shot. Remove the left main branch, rotate the tree a bit clockwise looking down from the top. Find one of those cool Philippines' rocks (or one of those rocks in the background) and work it between the remaining trunk and the strongest aerial root. Bind the trunk and root tight to the rock with floral tape and let it be for a few years. Meanwhile chop all small branches not needed to get a basic line and regrow them to suit the design.
Have fun.

Yes, i looked at that one - steeply tapered lower trunk,,,,,,but these eastern guys dont get excited unless its a meter tall & 3 meters wide !! (we know its because their treees have huuuuugggge leaves really) haha, only kidding jun.
I did a shohin vert of one of roberts trees, until it appeared to be a 5 ft long trunk!!
i'll have a play after my dinner
cheers Marcus

Thank you Rob. The tree over rock is very nice...I've got about dozen of that design, but nevertheless your virt is lovely.
@ Marcus,
hahaha!!!! Common let us see your creativity on this one.
@John,
The tree is just above a foot tall, and it got only one trunk. The other "trunk" is an oversized aerial roots, that situation is typical of a banyan tree when left unattanded.
@ Jesse and Fore,
thanks!
....I'll post mine, next week...very busy these days preparing for our special guest.
....but as usual my idea is a bit weird, but maybe funny.

jun

Re: design challenge 1
That is a very nice sketch Vev!! I like it very much...the tree seems to be wrestling with the rock. Is that what we call "Sumo"? hehehe.

Marcus,
now you are trying to read mind too, right? hehehe. in to windswept design too? hehehe.
thanks Marcus!

John,
Are we in a kind of a hurry? hehehe! Sorry for the delayed response/update on this one. been busy lately.
I'll discuss my concept later. Sorry if I mess around with your brain guys...but I am very happy that more and more people are doing design solutions lately (because that means less sketches for the frequent sketchers and virt guys here,,,me included, just kidding). It think it really does help a lot in improving our design skills , and it is much better than killing your own tree. I really appreciate your contributions guys.

Re: design challenge 1
People,
this tree can be designed in many ways. So there is no wrong answer/solution for this particular tree.
I am using this tree as model/prototype for my next project. as I am also trying to learn how to sculpt brass (maybe some more years)...and hopefully combine the two arts-for arts sake and to express more emotions that I cannot personally do with bonsai alone, maybe it is not for other people to like. but who cares right? Like what we always say here, if it makes you happy then do it.
There are tribes here in our country preserving their cultural tradition and one of them is creating tree houses...
This is one of the ideas I really want to achieved one day
for now i'll settle with one...
my study treehouse...

Re: design challenge 1
Wasn't planning on doing so. I rather like them in a quirky sort of way.
Now, about the money that guy paid me to look at and then copy your design .......
