Hi Mike,
Did you carve the rock? Is it lava rock or something else? Great rock! I like the idea of figurines but I go for the "more realistic" type. Although it looks like your figure is a happy god or something.
I think your boxwood has potential and you might consider carving the right side part of the trunk if you can maintain enough lifeline.
