Sweet fish, Summer
I was going through my scroll looking for some for a forthcoming show, I came across some Sweet fish scrolls my favorite summer image . I then realized that even with all the shows I had done this year I had not used one.
Sweet fish are the Japanese equivelent to Salmon and sea trout of Europe and North America. They migrate into fresh water,The river systems to spawn in the summer months
So I have put this this alcove together mainly to give the scroll an outing
Please enjoy
Regards Chris

Ah, what memories!
I was fortunate enough to spend my time in Japan way out in the country. The back boundary of the Bonsai Park was a small rocky river with mountains just beyond it. Every summer the fishermen would come and create a large trap in the river to catch "ayu".
Your scroll is perfect for a summer display. And summer in Japan, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, is magical.

Russel Cooker is right...this is for a early/summerdisplay.....I dont know when your exhibition takes place. But a early/fall scroll could be better, as a season who is ower, is normaly not displayed.
Kind regards Yvonne

Chris clearly says he put this display together today (or yesterday), to enjoy the scroll- (Aug holidays is as close to summer as Wales gets!! )- perfect combination and beautiful accent planting.
Lovely Chris, is the alcove in your house?.
best regards Marcus

Re: Sweet fish, Summer
memories for me as well, two years on the northern most tip of Hokkaido...I fished for a char looking fish, that ran up from the sea in the local streams and were called "snow" trout by the locals.
Like pots and stands, scrolls come in all sizes and scenes and no matter how many you have, you always seem to come up short.
I have to agree with others that in most display situations, scenes tend to seek out the next period of time to anticipate rather than be "spot on" with the current.
After all is said and done tho, lovely scene and happy that it was shared.
thank-you!

A very pleasing image, Chris.
Is that a fern you used as an accent?

Chris,
I would have put that bonsai to the right side of the scroll. What made you put it on the left side?
