Juniper - indications to solve?
Hi all friends.
In BC, I chose Juniper tree. Many trees were very well prepared. Then one who had a big problem. After visiting the tree I bought it. People say there is a lot better here, why that? I said that is different, original. It has a big problem on the trunk, but that it instead will be important for me. I just want to show how little it takes for a significant change in the tree, I think for the better.
original tree
The first indications
Big estetic problem
The second indications
After a slight modification of one tree - new position
after cuts
continue next time.

Re: Juniper - indications to solve?
hi, these little junipers are great material to work with - they have enough twists and branches to form many styles - this one will be a very good 'classic' cascade and the cable ties are a good idea - more gentle on the tree than guy wires. excelent idea and one that we will all use i'm sure - (in black! )

That's interesting on how you reoriented the cascading branch with a top cut on the branch. Why did you do it that way and not undercut it from the bottom? Does that have anything to do with the degree or angle of bend you were looking for? But, as with your work overall, you really teach us to look at the tree much differently and with amazing results.
Thank you

Hi Marcus, Xuan and Orion
Thank you very much for yours very nice replies and compliments. I'm happy.

Orion - Yes, it is the angle where the branch is growing cascade.

Pavel, I learn so much from you through your post. Using cable-tie to set branches is such a simple and elegant solution. Thank you.

HI Pavel, a great result from what was an average tree. Being able to realise the final design in the raw material is a true gift... a gift you have in abundance

Re: Juniper - indications to solve?
Very nice transformation , also the tree.
So all you have done in this is to cut off a piece of the branch and bend it down ?
Friendly , Manos.

Re: Juniper - indications to solve?
Hi Pavel,
I have a question- How deep of a cut did you have to make in relation to the thickness of the trunk? I would like to use that technique to an inch branch of a San Jose juniper. ( The main trunk is approx. 2 inches diameter). Would it possibly work? Thanks.
Regards, Philip

Hi Ebbtide
Yes, use the Junipers are ideal. Not a normal cut. Only branchy ring incised and carefully break open a branch of the bed.The branch will remain intact all, functional.

Thanks Pavel. I'll possibly try the technique next spring. Your progression series are always a delight and a load of info. Philip

There's your title, please write the book! I'll take ten copies, they would be worth their weight in gold! Please say you are/will, do it for us mere mortals struggling along with only human insight to guide us.

Thank you for the beautiful title for the book, but I'm not the right one who should write.

Re: Juniper - indications to solve?
Hi Pavel, Thank you! Indeed, very much I am a fan of your work and view your posts with great expectation and always you deliver an abundant reward. This tree is a prime example of how you can see the tree that is not there to me, and I dare say that most folks here would not have guessed the direction you were going with it. The book is wishful thinking, of course, but I must say you often give justifiable cause for reconsideration of my own projects, offering a much broader field of possibilities to chose from. It's precious man! Thank you so much for sharing! I am ever an avid fan and dedicated student of 'The Pavel Effect' school of bonsai. RKatzin
