Re: Boug Progression
Your boug looks great,,I suggest you let the branches you have chossen grow wild till it thickens, in the meantime you may train the secondary branches, cut the excess primary branch when you have achieved your desired thickness
Good luck

Thanks Jarrod, you know the drill.... Aussie protective clothing thongs, board shorts etc... Haha..
Ka pabling thanks for your advice, the tree has a long way to go yet I find the hardest thing is getting movement in branches....They grow so fast!! I feel you have to wire them very early in development.
Thanks again

Hi Shannon,
I can see that you have already wired your chossen branches, for bougies, I think thats the right thing to do, branches grow so fast.
Good luck

Re: Boug Progression
I know, mowing the lawn in thongs (flip flops/sandles/whatever the rest of the world call them) is such a thrill!
Shannon, I find that wiring while very young is the only way to get movement and I even go so far as to let the tree dry right out so the branches start to get limp, this makes it very easy to bend without snapping. Bougs are one of the few that can take this treatment though.
For me the best way to get nice branches on bougs is to grow and cut back much harder than you expect. This give good taper and movement in the branches.

Thanks Jarrod
Thanks Tim, the trucks around 25cm in diameter.
Reiner thank for your comment, the wrecked truck was from me and a rushed carving job which will need a lot of improvement.
