Satsuki ID? Empty Satsuki ID?

Post  Alxb Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:03 pm

Hi guys,

I would like your help to ID my small satsuki.
On the label is written Beni Banju or Bantu but I can't find any references to a type of this name.

The tree has variegated leaves, as u can see on ur pic.

Any help is welcomed

Thanks,
Alex

Closest I can get is 'Shira Fuji'. Can you make a leaf closeup and a single flower closeup?

Considering how rare variegated leaves are, this must be 'Shira Fuji'.

No doubt. And I don't know where that crazy 'beni' whatever name came from. Alxb, "beni" is red, orangey-red red and not a purpley red.

True, 'beni'/'kurenai' would never be used to describe that colour. But colour kanji appearing in cultivar name don't always refer to colours seen in the plant physically.

'Kinsai', for instance?? scratch Who came up with that one (a long, long time ago)?

'Aozora', 'Suisen', most or all of the 'Sui'-named 'Suisen' offspring. I am sure I am forgetting a few.
It's all poetic of course.

But most 'kurenai'/'beni', 'murasaki' and 'shiro'/'byaku' named ones seem to match to the colour.
