Re: question for the potters what do you think of this combination?
Hi Peter!
I was thinking about it earlier, when I saw it in Bonsai section. The pot is great, for its glaze.
But the shape of the body is maybe too undercut for this small but "heavy" shohin. This pot needs a little lighter tree.

The pot is too light for the tree. You need a pot that is more masculine and grounded perhaps and oval or possibly a soft cornered rectangle. Stay away from hard rectangles and squares as IMO I think they will be too hard for the image

It is VERY hard to match pot to tree. When we offered it up to the tree at Noelanders it looked right. I, you and other said so. Now the tree is in the pot it is not all bad. It looks good but it is a little on the small side for the tree. Hang fire on it and see how the tree progresses in the pot as it may fit the bill when the tree is in full leaf. I like the first alternative you offered, but not the unglazed. If it were me I would hang fire and see how things work out for a few months before deciding on something else

Hello Peter. I think the pot it's in is better than the others you offer. Personally I like the glaze on Andy's pot and I think a round pot will suit it very well, but with a much less undercut base. Some chamfer but not straight maybe? I also like the diameter of the present pot too.

Hi Will,
I am convinced I find the wright one til next season, I think you are wright at the pot should be more straight to the bottom.

If the flower colour is pure white, I would stick with the present white crackle

Nononnonononono not an attack at all my danish/belgium friend, not at all. I still like the white crackle, my gut says it is good and I always listen to that. I agree that the shape can be improved a tad. I tell you what send me a photo of the tree and I will virtually repot it for you, in blue and possibly pink too :-)
