Servimg down - Thursday Feb 24th into Friday 25th 2011

It appears that servimg - our picture hosting service - is currently down and anyone who has tried to post a picture will have got a message about not being able to create directories.

Don't panic - it's nothing you've done. It sometimes goes down like this, usually for routine maintenance, and on most occasions it is restored within 12 hours. Very rarely, something more sinister happens and it is off for a longer period.

It has been down for about 7 hours now, so in the first instance can we just ask you for a bit of patience in the hope that it resumes normal service soon.

If it drags on for any length of time, the Admin team will get deal with the issue as best we can.

I seem now to be able to post pics, but I have noticed that if you are using a photo (rather than a cartoon, smiley or other graphic) as an avatar, it does not always show.

It'll sort itself out in due course no doubt.

I suspect that our avatar space is all used up, mostly by all these damned animated ones! I'll look into that one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Just checked and it is a Forumotion update issue that they are looking into. Hopefully they will resolve it soon.

OTOH, I find those animated avatars a bit too "look-what-I-can-do cutsie" and very distracting, so maybe be we could ask people to use them a bit less???????
